The interesting documentary “42.195” by Alejandro Strauss has been shown at the Cineteca de las Artes.

As is well known, that is the distance you have to run for a marathon.

According to legend, the Greek messenger Pheidippides traveled that distance to report the Greek victory over the Persians and then fell dead.

Thanks to advances and preparation, it is no longer a deadly test, but it is one of the most demanding, as demonstrated by Strauss, who selects four women of different status and nationality.

The most successful is the Kenyan Rebby, who thanks to the prizes obtained has bought land and livestock to ensure her future and that of her family.

The Valencian Natacha has used sport as a philosophy of life and it has even helped her defeat breast cancer.

The indigenous Veronica of Chihuahua, who was not used to running in shoes and did so in huaraches.

And a student from Durango, who is training to run the Mexico City Marathon, with no other goal than to show that she can do it.

The director of Juan García Esquivel, the master of the lounge uses the marathon as a metaphor for life for these women accustomed to fighting against adversity and overcoming any setback.

It is a complicated production, because despite scarce resources, the main marathons in Japan, Athens and Valencia were covered, and the testimony of a Japanese champion who became an example for many women was obtained.

“42.195” is therefore an interesting documentary that should not be missed, even if you are not a sports fan…
