Each year, the Heritage Days program reserves a few good surprises: the opening to the public of sites that we rarely have the opportunity to visit.

The owners of the Kistinic castle in Quimper (Finistère), who also own the Toulgoat manor, have agreed to show their exteriors, Saturday September 16, 2023 for Kistinic and Sunday 17 for Toulgoat (these visits are full).

We were able to enter the Kistinic park in advance.

A majestic park

On the road to Guengat, you enter the estate through a gate framed by two pillars, a caretaker’s house welcomes the visitor. You have to walk several meters in the park (15 hectares mainly wooded) to see the castle. On this beautiful September day, the light is sublime.

And the incredible view: the castle overlooks the Steïr valley, in front of it spreads a very beautiful meadow lined with trees which opens the view towards Quimper. It’s majestic.

The hostess feels privileged to reside here: “The park is magnificent in all seasons. Flowering sometimes starts as early as Christmas! Camellias and rhododendrons are superb. And the house is bright whatever the weather, thanks to its exposure and its large openings. »

A well-maintained castle

The castle, “on a human scale”, was built in the early 1870s in the neo-Gothic style by Louis Mouillade, a Vendée notary.

“We feel that its construction was careful, and the successive owners have maintained it well. It has aged very well. We feel good there! »

The owner of Kistinic Castle

It evokes in particular a beautiful banister in wrought iron and art nouveau brass, the large stone fireplace on the garden level, the small round rooms of the tower…

In the park and in the woods, wells, calvary, fountain and oratory can be discovered during walks.
