The producers of the hit Netflix series are lifting a corner of the veil on the episode which will evoke the death of Diane in the next season.
How did Netflix plan to portray Diana’s death in The Crown? This is the question that all fans of the series are asking, as the final season approaches, scheduled for the end of the year.
Asked about this subject at a festival organized in Edinburgh (United Kingdom), the executive producers of the series Andy Harries and Suzanne Mackie wanted to be reassuring, reports the review Deadline:
“We are caring and delicate people. We had long discussions where we carefully debated how we were going to show this event,” said Suzanne Mackie.
“We were very respectful”
“The public will be the only judge, but I think it’s recreated with delicacy and tenderness”, she added before specifying that Elizabeth Debicki, the actress playing Diana, had been “very attentive” in her interpretation.
“She adores Diana. We’ve been very respectful. Hope it shows,” she concluded.

“Very important decisions”
“These are decisions made by the writers, the producers,” she insisted again about the scene. “These are very important decisions, which they have spent years on, to know what to show.”
According to the specialist journal Deadline, the car accident that claimed the life of Princess Diana on August 31, 1997 in Paris, at the age of 36, will not be shown on screen. “It will be the above,” a production person explained.
The episode of Diana’s death will also feature the arrival of Charles in France to recover the body of his ex-wife and escort her to London. This sixth season, announced as the last, will also show the meeting between Kate and William.
