Exploring the NHL Trade Market: The Flyers Consider a Deal for Tony DeAngelo

It’s not a hiding place Kent Hughes would like to get his hands on an offensive right-handed defender. As Logan Mailloux and Justin Barron continue to develop, it wouldn’t be surprising if he tried to acquire a veteran for a season or two.

That said, the summer is expected to be full of changes for the Flyers. A new CEO and a new president of hockey operations have already been chosen. The reconstruction is coming and with it, some players could find a new home. One of them could be Tony DeAngelo.

DeAngelo and Tortorella had differences last season, which led to the former being left in the stands towards the end of the year.

The Flyers will explore a trade for DeAngelo and they may be willing to hold onto money from the final year of his contract ($5 million) to facilitate a trade. Right-handed defensemen are still in high demand in the NHL, so there could be a market for DeAngelo despite his defensive shortcomings. He finished the year with 11 goals and 42 points in 70 games, which will increase his value.

The previous season in Carolina, he had collected 51 points in 64 games in addition to adding 10 in 14 playoff games.

There’s no doubt the 27-year-old American has impressive offensive skills that could help the Canadiens’ power play, but will Hughes let DeAngelo’s reputation cool him down?

Nevertheless, it is an option to consider.
