An impressive column of fire appeared north of the city of Oxford in England. This appeared following an explosion on the site of a waste management company.

A huge ball of fire was observed this Monday, October 2 in the county of Oxford in the United Kingdom, while several witnesses spoke of an explosion in the region, report several Anglo-Saxon media including Sky News.

A waste management site hit by lightning

Several images have been circulating in recent minutes on social networks where testimonies are multiplying concerning this column of fire which was observed to the northwest of the city of Oxford.

According to the local tabloid Oxford Mail, the fire broke out at the site of a waste management company, near the town of Yarnton. “This evening, a digester at our Cassington plant, near Yarnton, Oxfordshire, was struck by lightning, causing an explosion in our biogas tanks,” the company confirmed on its Facebook account in the evening.

“Fortunately no one was injured,” added Severn Trent Power, “we are working with the emergency services to ensure the safety of the site and to assess the extent of the damage as quickly as possible.”

Thames Valley Police have confirmed that officers are at the scene.
