On Friday, the Egyptian Ministry of Health announced details of the health condition of those injured as a result of an “explosive object” falling inside the city of Taba on the Sinai Peninsula.

The ministry said in a statement, “10 equipped ambulances were sent to the site of the fall of an explosive object, in the early hours of Friday morning, inside the city of Taba, in the vicinity of the administrative housing for hospital and ambulance workers in South Sinai Governorate.”

She continued, “6 injured people were transferred to Taba Central Hospital. All injuries were minor and not life-threatening. Four injured people left the hospital after receiving treatment, and the rest of the injured are expected to be discharged in the coming hours.”

Local and international media reported news of an explosion in Taba, adjacent to the Israeli border, early Friday.

For its part, the Israeli army confirmed that it was “aware of a security incident occurring near its border on the Red Sea with Egypt.”

The Israeli army added in a comment to Archyde.com: “We are aware that a security incident occurred, but it occurred outside our borders.”

Earlier Friday, a witness told Archyde.com, “An explosion was heard, and thick smoke and dust were seen rising early Friday, in an Egyptian resort on the Red Sea near the Israeli border.”

The Egyptian Cairo News Channel broadcast images of the explosion live, and reported, citing sources, that the explosion “is related to a missile that fell in Taba.”

“Explosion” in the Egyptian city of Taba… and the Israeli army comments

An eyewitness confirmed to Archyde.com that an explosion occurred in the Egyptian city of Taba, adjacent to the Israeli border, early Friday.

Taba is an Egyptian city with a very popular tourist character, affiliated with the South Sinai Governorate, and is located at the head of the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea opposite the coastal city of Eilat in Israel, more than 350 km (220 miles) from Gaza.

The Israeli National Security Council had called on Israeli citizens to leave Egypt and other Arab countries “immediately,” in light of the escalation of regional tensions due to the war with Gaza that has been ongoing since October 7th.

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian army announced, on Sunday, that there were “some minor injuries” among the Egyptian forces on the border with Israel, as a result of “accidental” shelling from an Israeli tank, without specifying the number of wounded, according to what Agence France-Presse reported at the time.
