Exposed and with hands tied: At least 8 bodies found in northern Mexico

According to prosecutors, “eight male individuals” were “found lifeless” on Sunday on the road between the cities of Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez, near the border with the United States. Local media reported nine bodies. According to the judiciary, the cause of death was initially unclear. An investigation has been launched to identify the victims.

As the newspaper “Milenio” reported on its website, “a message that is probably attributed to drug trafficking” was found next to those killed between the ages of 35 and 50. The newspaper reported that the bodies were found naked and with their hands tied.

The state of Chihuahua, located on the border with the USA, is repeatedly shaken by violence linked to organized crime. There are regular clashes between gangs fighting over lucrative drug trafficking routes to the USA.

According to official figures, more than 420,000 people have been killed in Mexico since December 2006. At that time, the government launched a controversial Mexican military offensive against drug crime in the country.
