EY lays off 3,000 employees in the United States

The British firm EY, which recently decided against splitting its audit and consulting activities, announced on Monday April 17 the dismissal of around 3,000 employees in the United States, in particular due to the “economic conditions” and “overcapacitiesin certain activities.

The EY firm has reduced its staff by 3,000 employees in the United States.

This represents less than 5% of the workforce in the country, the group said in a message sent to AFP.

Other consulting firms have recently made similar decisions, starting with Accenture, which announced a savings plan at the end of March providing for the elimination of around 19,000 jobs, or 2.5% of its workforce, spread over the next 18 month.

According to press reports, KPMG also announced in February its intention to lay off about 700 people in the United States, or about 2% of its workforce, while McKinsey planned to cut 2,000 positions.

At EY, management says the job cuts “are part of the day-to-day management of our activities” et “do not result from the recently completed strategic review“.

The group, which had formalized in September its intention to separate its auditing and consulting branches in order to be able to win contracts in one or the other of these activities without having to worry about possible conflicts of interest, including finally gave up following the opposition of his associates in the United States.
