‘Eyes ripped’ audience towards Son Heung-min… Seo Kyung-deok “An act of blasphemy against all Asians”

Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women’s University said on the 19th that he had sent a protest e-mail requesting strong punishment to all 20 EPL clubs against racist behavior towards Son Heung-min, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League (EPL).

In a protest email, Professor Seo said, “How can racism continue to take place in the EPL matches watched by soccer fans around the world? The Chelsea club and the EPL secretariat will have to come up with a thorough investigation.”

He added, “Until now, ‘strong punishment’ should be given rather than ‘soft punishment’ for acts of racism.

Earlier, sports media The Athletic reported that EPL Chelsea recognized the possibility of racism against Son Heung-min in the match against Tottenham on the 14th and launched an investigation.

In the Tottenham fan community and social networking service (SNS), a photo of a man taking off his shirt and tearing his eyes to the side towards Son Heung-min is being shared in the stands. This is considered an act of demeaning Asians.

Son Heung-min has been a victim of racial discrimination several times. When some fans criticized Son Heung-min on Twitter and made racist tweets that crossed the line, the local police investigated the identities of 12 people involved and made them write an apology letter.

On the other hand, Professor Seo said that he would report to influential media worldwide about racism in the EPL in the future, and in particular, report it to FIFA to create global public opinion.
