F1 Belgian Grand Prix: Spa-Francorchamps releases latest images of Au Rouge renovation work[F1-Gate .com]

Spa-Francorchamps, the setting for the F1 Belgian Grand Prix, has unveiled a new photo of the road repaving work taking place in the iconic Au Rouge / Radion section of the truck.

After last year’s F1 Belgian GP was shortened by bad weather, Spa-Francorchamps refurbishment work is underway during the winter and many changes have already been made to improve the truck’s infrastructure.

As the track limit approaches the curb, the gravel trap is partially revived. Includes Pooh’s 170mph double left hander and Le Combe’s left and right chicane.

But one of the key parts of the renewal is in one of F1’s most famous corners, Au Rouge. Safety measures have been taken there, especially with new asphalt laid down first and visible changes around the uphill light handers.

A closer look at the changes around the corner reveals a new element of what safety measures are in place.

The wall on the left side of the hill towards the first Apec is further away from the track, but a new sausage curb has been introduced to keep the corner profile unchanged, and do reckless things at the corner entry to attack Au Rouge. The driver will feel a nasty surprise.

This has the two-sided effect of making the layout safer without compromising the integrity of the challenges faced by the driver. This is expected to be a situation that benefits both sides in all respects.

The run-off at the edge of the corner is also extended, which is expected to reduce the impact on the wall if the driver spins off.

Coupled with that, a new grandstand planned on the hill of Rydillon is beginning to take shape. It will be completed at the end of April and will accommodate 4,600 fans along with a VIP box.

The 2022 F1 Belgian Grand Prix will take place August 26-28 at the newly refurbished Spa-Francorchamps.
