Dubai: Kerala’s Joby Mathew won the bronze medal in the men’s 59 kg category at the World Para Powerlifting Championship in Dubai. The 29th World Medal was won on August 29, the National Sports Day. With this, Jobi Mathew qualified for the Asian Para Games to be held in China in October.

Jobi, a manager and sportsperson at Bharat Petroleum, was born with 60 percent physical challenges. Behind Jobi’s achievements is hard work even in crises. Jobi, a native of Sakuum, lives in Aluva with his family. Joby’s coach is JP Singh, the official coach of National Para Powerlifting.

Joy Thanangadan, a businessman, social activist and Keralite from UAE, stood by with encouragement at the end of the competition.
