F1 Dutch GP 2nd free run: Leclerc leads Ferrari 1-2 Red Bull F1 is lackluster Verstappen 8th[F1-Gate.com]

The second free practice session of the 2022 F1 Round 15 Dutch Grand Prix was held at the Zandvoort circuit on Friday, September 2, and Charles Leclerc (Scuderia Ferrari) marked the top time.

Red Bull Racing were lackluster while Ferrari and Mercedes showed speed in the FP2 session, which started 15 minutes late after FIA-F2 qualifying was red-flagged twice.

In the qualifying simulation on soft tyres, Charles Leclerc topped the timesheets with a new benchmark of 1’12.345.

Team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr. was just 0.004 seconds behind in 2nd place, and Ferrari ended the first day’s session with a 1-2 system.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) followed with a difference of 0.072 seconds in third place. Team-mate George Russell was in fifth place by 0.310s, and the track temperature of 35 degrees made it an encouraging first day for Mercedes F1.

Lando Norris (McLaren) followed in 4th place and has been performing well this weekend. Team-mate Daniel Ricciardo recorded the 10th fastest time after only 10 laps due to an oil leak from the radiator.

Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) was 6th and Fernando Alonso (Alpine) was 7th.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing), who had finished the FP1 session in just 10 minutes due to gearbox trouble, was 8th, 0.6 seconds behind the top. He finished the session without showing any good points, 11th, 1.1 seconds behind his teammate.

A fairly uneventful session was turned upside down with 12 minutes remaining when Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) ran off the track at turn 11 and was forced to red flag after being stuck in the gravel.

The session resumed with four minutes remaining, but the shortened finish of the final ten minutes should have had some impact on each team.

Yuki Tsunoda (Scuderia AlphaTauri) was 11th.His teammate Pierre Gasly finished 16th

The second day of the F1 Dutch Grand Prix will be held tomorrow, the 3rd (Saturday), with the third free practice session starting at 19:00 (12:00 local time) and qualifying starting at 22:00 (15:00 local time).
