Fabbrica Europa, the priorities for improving the competitiveness of the industry

«Fabbrica Europa», the document containing the ten points that Confindustria has indicated as priorities for the European policy of the Parliament that will be elected in June, was presented yesterday in Naples, a new stage organized by Confindustria and Confindustria Campania of a roadshow that touches on other city. «We are very strong supporters of European unity, therefore we think that Europe must strengthen itself to be more competitive», the words of Stafan Pan, delegate for Europe of Confindustria. «In the last ten years – he added – the GDP per capita in Europe has fallen sharply, while in the USA it has doubled. We have to leave quickly. Time is decisive.”

The issues put on the table are well known, from environmental and digital transitions to research and innovation, greater credit capacity, better legislation, energy and defence, which are the priorities that have emerged in recent times and on which a common policy is more urgent than ever . «The objective of decarbonisation is right, but it is equally right to establish how to achieve it – said the general director of Confindustria, Raffaele Langella, in introducing the work and the discussion between Campania entrepreneurs and MEPs – The years in which Europe set rules that others had to apply are finished.”

Grassi: «Decontribution, Zes Unica, to be improved»

Topics also touched upon by Vito Grassi, president of the Council of Regional Representatives of Confindustria. «We want to invite people to vote in the European elections – he said – it is not enough that only 50% of those entitled to vote. What is decided in Europe affects us directly. The environmental challenge is a positive asset to be pursued with pragmatism, aiming for technological neutrality. Energy and defense are crucial issues.” Grassi also lists a series of issues that are particularly important for Southern Italy. «Decontribution, single SEZ, use of development and cohesion funds are important tools that must be improved and activated». Finally, Carlo Palmieri, vice president of the Industrial Union of Naples clarified: «We want to dialogue with MEPs and representatives in Europe, improve the use of European funds and pursue the objective of making Southern Italy an energy hub in the Mediterranean”.

Industry to be strengthened

Opinions shared by Carlo Corazza, director of the Italian Office of the European Parliament: «The European Union is faced with great challenges, first and foremost peace. We are aware that there is a need for a stronger Europe. And the first thing to strengthen is the industrial base.”
