-What happened that last time to make it really the last?
-At 22 we all started using. It was normal in rock. I didn’t like it, I woke up the next day and wanted to kill myself. I had different treatments and in 2001 I entered Narcotics Anonymous. From then on ten years passed in which I had one relapse a year. I wanted to kill myself. I did anything, my friends went to look for me in strange places. I couldn’t help it because cocaine brings out the anguish and I, basically, am an anguished person. I have been doing spiritual work since I was little and the prior of the Templar order, Víctor Bassino, came into my life, who was taken away by the saints before the pandemic. That man taught me the life of Christ, not the life of the Church. The Templars are a very ancient and very humble order. He began to teach me a lot of things and one day he told me: “I have a message from the Ascended Masters for you. If you relapse again, they will take away your protection. And I said: “No! Don’t take my protection away.” So never again. That was exactly 10 years and 10 months ago. I fulfill the 7th of each month. You have to choose a day and I chose the 7th to fulfill. I believe in numerology too. Also, in a Buddhist workshop I promised not to eat animals again. When I was 19 years old I became a vegetarian. Do you want me to tell you?
–Of course!
-I had read a book, I visited Ganymede, by Josip Ibrahim. And the preparation to go to Ganymides, which is one of the six natural moons of Jupiter, was done in the Himalayas and everyone was vegetarian. I read it when I was 19 and boom! I became a vegetarian. I started reading the properties of cabbage, of everything, and over time I left it and returned several times, until the teacher of this Buddhist workshop, our dear Florencia, told me: “Buddhists don’t eat meat.” In Buddhism they teach that you have other lives and choose your own life in an angelic state. Then there is no one to blame, you take responsibility.

-Did you go to live in Tigre some time ago?
-Yes, but it was before the last relapse. I had relapses and they were tremendous. When you take cocaine you don’t want the comedown to come. Cocaine is very toxic, they say it is the revenge of the Inca, the curse on the white man. I lived here in a one-room apartment that I had bought with my savings. Until then I had savings. I lived in the center for a lot of years and I went to live in Tigre and I don’t really know why. I sold the apartment and in two years I spent $60,000 on trips, inviting friends to eat and also my friends from the village, because I was going shopping and I invited them to the pool. You see that I’m a little delirious… My friends would come to my house and say: “Well, guys, it’s time to go.” I don’t know why I ended up at Tigre. Cinthia Benítez rescued me. I almost left it there. Cinthia called the ambulance, they admitted me and I stayed there for two weeks. They gave me several opportunities, they threw me several ropes. I know I came into the world for something. You have to go low, calm and be happy with what you do.
-After the last relapse you entered Narcotics Anonymous. What are your talks like, how does it work?
-We are people from different social classes, without surnames, in pursuit of giving the best and we are in all parts of the world. Gentlemen, this is real communism and I want to demystify that it is a sect. The truth is that the only place where I saw this type of mechanism working is here. I think the world is reaching a limit, although I have faith. My spiritual informants say that starting to not eat meat is a step to the new man. With that you elevate yourself spiritually. Theoretically we are accessing another place, although the dark forces want us not to. I don’t mind looking like a crazy person, I say it: the light won, but evil doesn’t go away without a fight. So, everything that is happening that is horrible is the last slap of a drowning man.

-Let’s talk about the series and the movie about the first Los Twist album, 29 and a half hours, which will be released soon. In one year, two fictional Fabi Cantilo, Mica Riera, appeared in The love after Love and now Sofi Morandi.
-Are they going to release it? Because I have nothing to do with that movie. I don’t think they can release it, eh? Because the only Fabi Cantilo authorized by me is Mica (Riera).
-But she was already chosen for the series when you met her, right?
-Yes, but it came from Fito’s side, who is a good man. Fito gave me back everything that I took from myself by consuming toxic substances. All the stories of addicts are similar: that they lost everything, that… some lost their lives and cannot tell it. They gave me a second life, that’s why I support noble causes like Fer Pieroni’s.
-At first there was a misunderstanding regarding what you thought The love after Lovethe Serie…
-It was me who said I wasn’t going to say anything and I don’t know what I said. Yes, it seems to me that the way of telling the essays is very childish. Fito didn’t want that, he wanted the same thing as me, but when you sign a contract with a platform you have to agree to some things.

-Yes, and that was great to me, look how the Gran Rex sold.
-And thanks to the series, a generation of kids got to know you who perhaps had not heard of you or had, but had not yet heard your music.
-That’s true. At Gran Rex I’m going to ask: who came for the series? (laughs) There is an unpublished song. Fito made me a song that didn’t make it into the series and that we are going to do in the shows. Let’s see if he comes, I don’t know if he’s going to be on tour. I do everything as if he didn’t come and if he does come it will surprise us all. I understand it and I don’t care, just as I didn’t care about the series. I actually wanted him not to do it because it talks about my intimacy, although I tell things in the notes, later I want to kill myself for what I said.
-Had you distanced yourself from Fito?
-No, I had not distanced myself, but now we are closer than ever and no one knows why. I’m always there, but sometimes he gets more phobic. He has his wife, his wives throughout his life and he has children, children! I have three cats and he is a lot. I have a ridiculous relationship with my cats. When I am alone with them I enter a parallel universe. One day when Fito wasn’t answering the phone, it dawned on me. He has children! I can’t be so self-centered! What the series tells is a little about what happened, I didn’t want to but we finally did it. We reached an agreement but then Fito really didn’t like what happened. I don’t want to talk, he has to say it, but the way it is told is a bit childish. The actor who plays Fito (Iván Hochman) is a genius, but Fito has more character. He wasn’t so submissive when he was young, he was a beast. Saint of my soul, you didn’t realize how much he suffered. When I saw the series I started crying. Sorry Fito! I picked it up without eating or drinking it. It’s a lot. I could have opposed (the series), but I didn’t care because I whitewashed my drug problem, but there are a lot of invented things and others that happened and that are not told.

-In the notes you always talked about personal issues, about your addictions, something that perhaps the great male soloists of Argentine rock did not always do, right?
-I always bleached. Had not thought of that. Charly (García) was more of a beast in the interviews, he got offended, he got angry, but I don’t know at the time of Sui Generis.
–Are you in contact with Charly?
-They won’t let me see it and I’ve stopped insisting. Fito is in touch with the situation. I don’t know if they don’t love me. Everything is strange. I hope I can meet again. It’s sad. I remember what Charly was. He is the age of León (Gieco) and León is great. That’s what happens when you have a lot of problems and you can’t solve them.

-40 years have passed Bliss in motion, the first album by Los Twist. What do you remember about that time?
-Yes, but it didn’t all start there, eh? I played in pubs before that. I met Pipo (Cipolatti) through Miguel Zavaleta (singer of Suéter), but I don’t know how I met Miguel. One day Pipo and (Daniel) Melingo fell. At that time we were just smoking. There were a lot of strange beings, it was the year 80, more or less. The military was still there. We did the Ring Club with Vivi Tellas and Víctor Kesselman scripting a completely delirious situation. There we met, the pre-Grandparents, the pre-Twist and the pre-Sweater, all dressed up playing as if it were an oral trial. One played the judge, Zavaleta was the defense attorney and Kesselman was the prosecutor. All the topics were tests of I don’t know what, I don’t remember anymore. It was dementia, yes. And that began to grow and from there came Los Twist, Los Abuelos de la Nada, who were fighting among themselves because they had a member in common, Melingo. One day Melingo came and told us: we were going to record and since they didn’t believe we were going to make an album they gave us only three days in the studio. The most important album in the history of local rock was recorded in three days! Let’s talk about delusions, right? What is the key to success? Does not exist!
-That album was produced by Charly García. Then you went on tour with him, right?
. Yes, Charly took us on tour. He took Gonzo (Palacios), Melingo and me, and left Pipo (Cipolatti). I had already met Charly. I was behind Pedro Aznar, but he didn’t give me the ball. Charly later took us with the Bay Biscuit to do “Marcianitas”, a song by Billy Cafaro. Another delirium. We came out of a rocket and Charly introduced us in the middle of his show. People were booing us! We had a shiny heart in our asses. The country was not prepared for that. A genius that I never experienced again.

-And how did you meet Fito?
-In rehearsals with Charly. That’s fine in the series. Let’s rock it with my swordsman.
-Did you see it and fell in love?
–I saw him and his face looked… I didn’t fall in love at the first moment but he did, he saw me and he loved me. Then yes, I started asking him about UFOs and we started talking. On the tour we started looking at each other. I liked skinny pale guys with long hair. I believe that he kidnapped me in another life, he had me tied up in a castle and did horrible things to me. Tell him that there is a Stockholm syndrome going around. At the same time, I had a boyfriend who lived in the North Zone. The 152 goes from Olivos to La Boca and on New Year’s I couldn’t decide, so I passed it on top of the bus. Fito was on one side of the trip, and my boyfriend on the other. The thing is that I was with Fito and suddenly I felt guilty and went with the other one. A horror. That’s how I ended up, right? The truth is that I am happy to be now in my quiet house, with my cats. I was very outgoing and Fito was a saint next to those who came after. I was there but I wasn’t there, that is shown a little in the series, when they call him to tell him about his father. And the Gran Rex are thanks to this since a gross producer, Don Eduardo, appeared, who told María (his manager): “I want to make a Luna Park with Fabi.” I said: “Not Luna Park, it sounds bad: I want a Gran Rex.” And three came out.
-You recently went on a tour of Europe, how did it go?
–Very good, thank you politicians who made people leave Argentina. Thanks to them I have someone to sing to abroad. I’m not going to name names, but there were several reasons why many Argentines left. I went backpacking many years ago but I had never gone on tour for a month. I never left my house for a month, alone with Charly, during the tour of Modern clicks. So now I made all the songs that people wanted to hear, like “My illness.” You want them to know other songs, not just the ones that the labels promoted, but it’s okay to give them what they want to hear.

-You have an extensive career as a composer, as well as a performer of other people’s songs…
-When I started I didn’t compose. In Los Twist he did not compose, in Detectives (his first solo album) only one song, in Los Perros Calientes most of the songs were by Gabriel Carámbula, and only on my third album, Something better, there were more own themes. And the songs that became most famous were those of Charly, those of Fito or those of (Andrés) Calamaro. Over time I dedicated myself to composing more and inWhat are they laughing at? (1998) all songs are mine. I remember that I did the cover with Nahuel Lerena with all the pigs. I am a pig in the Chinese horoscope. He was 35 years old. He was a kind of bomb shelter. And it’s not that it was more difficult because I was a woman, because everyone loved me, Fito, Luis, Charly, who is the one who gave me a place. Maybe I boycotted myself a lot. A woman who takes drugs is seen worse than a man who takes drugs, that’s why they didn’t take me anywhere or give me tours. They were afraid of me. But that’s it and it’s good to point out that she hasn’t used any substance for ten years and ten months and she hasn’t eaten meat either.

-How did you meet Fernando Pieroni and how did you get involved with his foundation?
-We met Fer when he was starting to help abandoned animals. Baby, mi personal manager, he told me about the place he had in Berazategui and we went there. We saw the baby pigs, the geese. He lives with Nati Alaniz, who is the mother of his daughter India. And it’s good to support the fight of someone you know. He has a sanctuary in Entre Ríos with his partner for animals that cannot return to the jungle. They do a great job.
