Facebook Groups look revamped to make them look like Discord

Meta is about to make some big changes to the Facebook app, specifically Facebook Groups, and if you’ve used Discord, which is popular among gamers, the new approach to Facebook groups design should look very familiar to you.

Meta is testing a new sidebar and left-aligned channel list for accessing groups, which give the feel and feel of seeing Meta-invoked Discord, but in purple.

The most significant change is the new sidebar that lists your groups with square, no-angle icons. As with Discord and Slack, you’ll be able to pin groups in order of priority for them to appear in the list. This will allow the individual groups to have a new list. The list organizes things like channels, messenger chats, and events one by one.

Channels will also be added! Channels in groups can be text chats, audio rooms, or a View Post page, where people can post and comment in a similar way to what you’re used to seeing on the Facebook homepage. The text chat in the new Facebook groups looks exactly like the Messenger app, while the audio rooms look like the audio rooms in Discord.

You can take a look at these three shots in these attached photos from Meta.

The new Groups update arrives as Meta begins testing its transformation into making Facebook more like TikTok. The goal of this change is to have the Posts page recommend more content from accounts you don’t follow, so it makes sense that Meta is using the transformation as an opportunity to rethink how Facebook groups work. But we’ll have to wait and see if integrating TikTok and Discord into Facebook makes sense, as the app is starting to get a little confusing.

The changes will be made available to the public in the coming months, META spokeswoman Kate Sechey told The Verge.
