The bad tongues were very bad when they declared that tvOS 17 was going to be the fifth or the sixth wheel of the carriage during the WWDC. On the contrary, the new version of the operating system has fired all wood with A considerable number a handful of novelties that continue to signal the manufacturer’s interest in its living room platform.

The great novelty of tvOS 17 is unfortunately the most buggy of this first beta. Like the function Camera Continuity macOS, the new FaceTime app from tvOS turns an iPhone or iPad into an Apple TV webcam.

Apple TV’s FaceTime app contacts nearby iPhone or iPad…
…which displays a notification requesting permission to use the Camera Continuity feature.

After this short configuration process which requires placing the smartphone or tablet properly near the TV, all you have to do is select the correspondent(s).

Alas, that’s where it gets stuck then, it was impossible for us to receive calls or to pass, it rings in the void. It’s a first beta and Apple still has a little time to tighten the bolts! The manufacturer also plans to open this continuity function with third-party apps like Webex and Zoom.

So it’s only a postponement. The Camera Continuity function will also be used for Apple Music Sing: budding singers will be able to see themselves on their TV (filters are also provided) while the lyrics of the songs scroll on the screen. However, this fun feature is limited to the 3rd generation Apple TV 4K, the one released last year.

While waiting to go on TV, users of this first version of tvOS 17 can already take advantage of the 6 icons per row, which allows them to fit an extra app on each line – and casually, it’s still good better. Apple also took the opportunity to review the drop-down menus which are similar to those we know under macOS!
