In any case, we must certainly execute orders to leave the territory for potentially dangerous, radicalized or delinquent people.”
“This gentleman presents himself to the Foreigners’ Office (EO) in 2019, he is given an address where he can be contacted, it could be that of a lawyer or an association. This address is in Schaerbeek but the municipality is not aware: this name is on a waiting list, among thousands of others. No one asks the municipality to check their home. When, almost a year later, the Foreigners’ Office receives the refusal to be recognized as an asylum seeker pronounced by the General Commission for Refugees and Stateless Persons (CGRA), the Foreigners’ Office removes him from the list. Nothing else happens, the municipality is never informed. We send the person concerned an order to leave the territory by mail, but no one bothers to follow the reality of this gentleman. There is no formal and concrete follow-up by the Office of Foreigners of people registered or removed from the lists. This is not transmitted to the municipality. This is why thousands of people hang around the stationsin the street or elsewhere.
