False propaganda that Oreo biscuits are not halal; UAE authorities with explanation

Abu Dhabi: The UAE authorities have come up with an explanation following a social media campaign went viral that Oreo biscuits contain alcohol and lard. The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has stated that it is a false advertisement that the biscuits contain lard and alcohol content.

‘Recently it was rumored that Oreo biscuits are not halal as they contain pork and alcohol. We inform you that this is false,’ the ministry said. The Authority (ADAFSA) also stated that it has verified all Oreo Biscuits goods imported into the country and verified their records.

After noticing that such news was circulating on social media, the authorities put it under investigation. At the same time, Adafsa also informed that the biscuits do not contain any alcohol or lard (lard) derivatives.

When the results of the laboratory test of the product came out, the officials stated that nothing might be found to validate the false propaganda. Adafsa said these products comply with the prohibitions and restrictions laid down in the UAE standard. The UAE standard strictly prohibits the ‘addition of alcohol, alcohol products and ethyl alcohol (ethanol)’ at all stages of biscuit production.
