Farah withdrew due to a hip injury

British runner Mo Farah announced Wednesday that he had to withdraw from the London Marathon scheduled for next Sunday due to a hip injury.

The four-time Olympic champion was scheduled to participate in the 5 thousand meters and 10 thousand meters at the London and Rio de Janeiro Olympics, in the London Marathon for the first time since 2019.

The 39-year-old returned to competition following his failed attempt at the Tokyo Olympics last year, and showed that he is in good shape by winning this month the “Big Half”, a half marathon held on the streets of London.

“I have trained hard over the past few months and have recovered very well,” Farah said in a statement released by the London Marathon organisers. But I have had pain in my right hip for ten days.”

“I did everything I might to be at the starting line, but the improvement is not enough to run on Sunday.”
