Fashion designer Roberto Cavalli dies at the age of 83

Cavalli died on Friday at his home in Florence at the age of 83, his relatives said. After he had been frail for a long time, his health had deteriorated significantly in the last few days.

The fashion designer had been married to Eva Maria Düringer from Vorarlberg since 1980, with whom he had three children. The fashion house founded by Cavalli had an eventful history. The company had to close its boutique in Vienna in 2016, just three years after it opened. A third of the company’s workforce had to leave at that time.

The austerity course was taken after the Italian private equity company Clessidra acquired the fashion house. In 2019 it became the property of the Dubai-based private investment company DAMAC.

Cavalli’s fortune was recently estimated at around $500 million (€466.03 million).
