The American RCAM Technologies buys a gantry robot system from Cybe Construction, the Cybe GR. This 3D concrete printer will be located on the AltaSea campus in Los Angeles and will be used to 3D print, among other things, the suction anchors for the floating wind turbines at sea that RCAM is developing.

With a size of 400,000 m2, the AltaSea campus is one of the largest research and development campuses in the field of renewable energy. RCAM Technologies has a terminal here where it develops 3D concrete printing applications for floating renewable energy systems at sea, such as wind turbines, solar and wave systems.

Accelerate application through lower costs

With the concrete solutions, the company wants to reduce the costs of these installations and accelerate their application. Moreover, with this concept it wants to make local production possible. Since its start in 2017, it has developed various innovative solutions in concrete, such as energy storage pods, anchors and structures on which the floating power stations rest.

Fastest portal concrete printer

Of Cybe GR is a portal concrete printer, developed for off-site printing, capable of printing concrete at 500 mm per second. This enables fast non-stop wet-on-wet production. The width is 7 by 10 by 4 meters in the standard version. It is precisely this speed that contributes to lowering the total costs. RCAM expects to be able to reduce the production costs of concrete torpedo anchors by 80% and CO2 emissions by 90% compared to a steel variant. “This transformative technology represents a tremendous advancement over our current capabilities and paves the way for a more sustainable, cost-effective future,” said Jason Contrell, founder and CEO of RCAM Technologies.

The company is being supported in the purchase by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and CEC’s program, Advanced Design for Floating Offshore Wind Mooring Lines and Anchors.
