The dramatic accident quickly appeared suspicious for those who are used to dealing with such cases. The behavior of Zoë Snoeks’ husband who made a fatal fall from the Hérou rock above the Ourthe in Nadrin (Houffalize) on November 2, 2021 had aroused at least astonishment.
A year ago, our colleagues from L’Avenir Luxembourg revealed that the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office had appointed an investigating judge to investigate this case. The latter has just ordered the arrest of the husband of the unfortunate victim Joeri Janssen, 36 years old, for murder, reveal our colleagues from Nieuwsblad. The man denies it outright.
Suspicious behavior
While initially, the accident theory was generally validated, doubts quickly arose, mainly due to the behavior of the victim’s husband in the days following the tragedy.
The couple used to travel in an RV and take photos in nature. The accident occurred early in the morning of November 2, 2021 and the man had taken the initiative to recount the circumstances of the tragedy to our colleagues at Laatste Nieuws in the moments that followed.
“Zoë took a position at the edge of the rock, waiting for me to take the photos, he explained. But then she told me to watch out for our two dogs who were approaching the edge. I turned around towards them and told them to wait. Then my gaze went back to Zoë, but she was no longer there. It must have happened in less than 5 seconds.
I looked up and saw only fog. I screamed at her, but I knew it was hopeless.”

Zoë’s lifeless body was found fifty meters below. The man also explained to the journalist how, realizing at the morgue that his wife’s mobile phone had disappeared, he had gone to look for it at the same place and had given the press the last photo of Zoë on the rock a few seconds before it topples.
The family does not believe in the accident
It was especially the young lady’s family who greatly doubted this story. She had become a civil party. According to the Nieuwsblad, the atmosphere within the couple was not perfect. The fact that the widower had quickly remarried had also brought grist to the mill of the grieving family.
The Antwerp investigating judge came to the scene a year ago, along with a magistrate from the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office and investigators.
Luxembourg police officers were also responsible for questioning a witness who was one of the first to discover the victim’s body. New elements that have recently appeared in the investigation have therefore led to the arrest of the husband who will soon appear before the council chambers.
