Fatal Hippopotamus Attack at Lucknow Zoo: What Really Happened

This is what the local media reported India Express regarding the attack that took place at the Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden, also known as Lucknow Zoo.

The 40-year-old keeper ventured into the animal’s enclosure with one of his colleagues to clean it. Normally locked in a cage during the procedure, the hippopotamus nevertheless managed to get out and charged at the forty-year-old, killing him instantly.

The other employee was also injured when the imposing mammal charged. He was in hospital in stable condition, according to the media.

The animal was immediately locked up following the incident, even though the accident occurred on a day when the place was closed to the public, said Lucknow zoo director Aditi Sharma.

The hippopotamus was quite new to this zoo since it had just been transferred from the one in Kanpur a few weeks ago.
