Fez-Meknes is a region with a low prevalence of HIV infection compared to other regions of the kingdom, she told MAP on the sidelines of a workshop organized Monday in Fez on the sidelines of the celebration of the 35th day global fight against AIDS under the slogan “early detection for an AIDS-free generation”.
More than 80 cases were recorded during the year 2023 in the region, Zine said, noting that HIV/AIDS is an urban disease.
The prefectures of Fez and Meknes account for the majority of cases in the region, she said, adding that this meeting aims to discuss the efforts made by the various actors and partners to fight against AIDS and risky behavior. , including HIV and viral hepatitis.
These diseases are a threat to public health, warned Ms. Zine, adding that the regional directorate of health and social protection Fez–Meknes is committed alongside provincial structures to eliminate these pathologies and other sexually transmitted infections. by 2030.
She also highlighted the efforts made by thematic associations and penitentiary establishments working in the field to fight against this scourge through awareness-raising and screening without stigma and without discrimination.
For his part, Abdelâziz Jebbar, head of the public health department at the regional directorate of health and social protection Fès-Meknes, stressed that this workshop tends to accelerate the achievement of screening targets and contribute to the elimination of new HIV infections regionally by 2030.
This annual regional event is an opportunity to bring together participants involved in the fight against AIDS to discuss the opportunities for early detection to be seized at the regional level as one of the essential actions in the fight against this pathology, he added.
He also announced that during the year 2023, the regional directorate of health and social protection of Fez-Meknes carried out various activities as part of the fight against AIDS, in particular, the implementation of the Strategic Plan integrated national plan (PSNI) 2024-2030 into an integrated regional strategic plan (PSRI) 2024-2030) through the mobilization of all delegations and the involvement of stakeholders at the local level, strengthening coordination with penitentiary establishments in the region Fez-Meknes and the support and reintegration centers for ex-detainees through the Mohammed VI Foundation for the reintegration of detainees, the establishment of a well-detailed care system for the two infections HIV and HCV (virus of hepatitis C), in addition to strengthening efforts to ensure mobilization of different stakeholders and the involvement of new identified partners as well as good governance at the regional level.
This workshop initiated in partnership with the municipality of Fez with the support of the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control and the National Institute of Hygiene focused particularly on the examination of opportunities for early detection at the level regional and especially in Fez and on the presentation of the epidemiological situation of HIV-AIDS at the national and regional level, and the national HIV screening strategy.
