Fatherly presences at this year’s Iris Awards – The two films that “represent” us – 2024-03-08 05:31:12

A total of one hundred films were submitted for the 15th Iris Awards. 17 fiction features, 17 documentary features, 6 Greek minority co-production features, 32 fiction shorts, 8 documentary shorts, 5 animation shorts and 15 academic shorts.

The selection process for this year’s Iris will begin immediately. Academy members will view the films and vote in two phases: the first ballot to select the final nominees and then the winners in the 22 award categories.

Among them, we find two films that in one way or another “represent” Patras.

Specifically, in the category “Short Fiction” we meet Panagiotis Fafoutis and the film “Pleura”.

In it, we are transported to a hospital room and as Panagiotis Fafoutis told us: “It is a love triangle with protagonists over 80 years old, which unfolds in a hospital room. The two women will have to work together while vying for the same man. It’s about hope, while at the same time it’s also a power play between the two women.”

In the same category, we also find the movie “White Christmas 1948” by Antonis Vallindras, in which the Patrini actress Petra Mavridis stars.

In it, Yiannis Perlepes, from Ioannina, a bit of a jerk, but who had saved Nikos Zachariadis with his heroism, on the night of Christmas 1948, at the head of twenty rebel children, sing carols to the soldiers of the National Army, and they retaliate with Vassilis Tsitsani’s “Ungrateful”, a story that ends with seven rebels dead when they fall into a minefield.
