There are doubts if he can reach his former level of performance. In March he will be 37 years old. The timing of the comeback announced for the summer is also questionable.

When asked by BILD, this diagnosis was not denied by the Neuer side. Instead, the general rule was: Don’t comment on medical matters. There is nothing to add to the statements made by the club and players.
No wonder Bayern is wondering whether a replacement will be enough by the end of the season. Or do you need a goalkeeper who can replace Neuer at the highest level in the long term? In the case of Sommer, there is a contract term until 2024 or 2025.
Bayern has been working flat out on a solution for weeks. Signing a new goalkeeper is a top priority in the winter transfer market. By January 31 at the latest, everything must be sealed and sealed. Then the winter transfer window closes.
But nobody at Bayern wants to wait until then. After all, three Bundesliga games will already be played by then. And two weeks later on February 14th there is already the first leg in the knockout round of the Champions League at Paris St-Germain.
