Federal Revenue must combat piracy in Remessa Conform imports

While states seek to increase the tax burden on Remessa Conformo, the Federal Revenue Service begins to plan the “next stage” of the program responsible for regularizing imports.

According to Estadão, the IRS wants to integrate Inmetro, Anatel and Anvisa on the platform to combat the import of pirated products. As a result, clothing, toys and electronics will be inspected by these government agencies.

The intention is for the risk management system to be integrated this year with a focus on detecting irregular products through sampling. In other words, something that the Federal Revenue Service currently does with containers in the country’s main ports.

This fight against piracy via Conformal Remittance is something that meets the request of Brazilian retail entrepreneurs, who continue to complain about unfair competition and lack of tax equality.

Despite this, many still argue that the government needs to apply some federal tax to purchases below US$50. On another front, industry associations are filing a lawsuit in the Federal Supreme Court against Remessa Compliance.

As the federal program managed to regularize the shipping of all goods purchased on AliExpress, Shein, Shopee and other Chinese retailers, the government believes that it now has the ideal conditions to carry out inspection by sample.

For now, the Federal Revenue Service does not say when the operation should begin, but Inmetro has already confirmed that it has been called to participate in Remessa Compliance.
