Feijóo tells PP to avoid claiming victory before Nov 29 elections

Learning from past campaign missteps, Alberto Núñez Feijóo convened party leaders on Thursday to prepare for Spain’s upcoming general elections, instructing his ranks to avoid prematurely claiming victory ahead of the November 29 vote. The directive comes in stark contrast to the preceding 23-J general elections, a contest the Partido Popular widely assumed it had won during the preliminary stages and campaign trail.

Addressing the party headquarters in Madrid, Feijóo cautioned against complacency as the campaign apparatus officially steps up. “Here, nothing is celebrated until the last polling station closes,” Feijóo stated during the organizational meeting. “I know what the street thinks and what common sense and logic dictate. Elections are not won by the atmosphere, nor by the polls. They are won the day people vote.”

Miguel Tellado Leads Campaign as Regional Leaders Welcome Vote

The party’s campaign committee will operate under the leadership of secretary general Miguel Tellado. Feijóo acknowledged that the structural team previously delivered five electoral victories, but pressed the leadership to exceed past benchmarks.

Upon arriving at national headquarters, regional party leaders weighed in on the political climate ahead of the late November ballot. Castilla y León president Alfonso Fernández Mañueco welcomed the scheduled vote, framing it as an opportunity for the public to turn the page on what he termed one of the worst phases in the nation’s democratic history. Mañueco pointed to recent reports from the UCO concerning political contacts involving the Los Rochos clan of Badajoz, alleging efforts targeting judge Beatriz Biedma.
