Ferns has a new mascot. Her name is Felgerix. Two comic book authors in Fougères, Benjamin Gérard le Billéen and Samuel Buquet le Lorousien, have created a small character in the image of the medieval city.
They offer stickers to put on a car or on a computer. The approach looks a bit like “A l’aise Breizh” but “à la sauce” fougeraise.
It all started with a text message from Benjamin Gérard to Samuel Buquet, one evening in February. “It would be cool to make a character representing Fougères”. “Good idea”, replied the illustrator, who sketched a “little sketch” the next day.
“A nod to Obelix”
A jester for the medieval side, a fern above the head, an ermine and a triskel for the Brittany : Felgerix is already well identified.
The goal is for the Fougerais to recognize him directly.
The name of the little man is imbued with symbols: “a nod to Obélix”, smiles Benjamin Gérard, who created at the same time the brand “They are crazy these Fougerais!” » in reference to the famous quotation of the Gaul to the address of the Romans.
Samuel Buquet drew Felgerix in black and white. It exists in a single format but the authors plan to offer it in a larger version, “for motorhomes”. The character is also declined in “BBZH on board”, with a little green. This version is at the printer.
Other variations?
Their target: “all those who hold Fougères and its surroundings in their hearts”. That is to say “the people of Fougere and the tourists”, whom they invite to adopt the “Felger attitude”.
The sticker is sold for €3.5 each. It is available on the site http://ilssontfouscesfougerais.fr and will soon be on sale at the Tabac presse souvenirs du castle in Fougères.
After a few days of launch, the two authors have already sold fifty Felgerix.
We have good feedback, people tell us that it’s a really good idea.
It is now necessary to wait for the product to infuse in the country of Fougères. “We will see the impact, it all depends on how it will work with the public”, advance the two creators who are thinking about other ideas like a family of Felgerix. “Fougères is a town of sport, culture and history. There are plenty of possible variations,” imagines Samuel Buquet.
