Ferdinand Marcos Jr., son of the late Philippine leader with the same name, declared victory in the presidential election on Wednesday, vowing to be the president of “all Filipinos”.
“To the world it says: Judge me on my actions, not on my grandparents,” spokesman Vic Rodriguez said in a statement.
By winning the presidency, Marcos Jr. restored his family to power 36 years after the popular revolution that toppled it.
After the initial count was nearly complete, Marcos secured more than 56 percent of the vote, more than double the percentage of his main rival, current Vice President Leni Robredo.
