Fernando Alonso has prepared a special helmet in honor of rival Sebastian Vettel, who will retire from F1 at the end of the 2022 F1 Abu Dhabi GP.
Sebastian Vettel will come to an end at the Yas Marina Circuit this weekend at the end of his 15-year Formula 1 career, a four-time world champion with 53 wins.
At the height of his success at Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel regularly battled Fernando Alonso, who was at Ferrari at the time. The two competed for the championship on two occasions until the final round. Vettel narrowly beat Alonso to win the title in both 2010 and 2012.
Ahead of Sebastian Vettel’s final F1 race at the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ferrando Alonso unveiled the German flag stripe design that Sebastian Vettel has raced since 2015, along with the words “DankeSeb” (Thank you, Seb) on both sides. )” revealed a special helmet design featuring the message.
“Danke Seb (Thank you Seb),” Fernando Alonso shared the helmet design on Instagram.
“This will be the last time I share a track with you. Emotional and sad at the same time, I wish you all the best for your next chapter.”
Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel were present at the FIA press conference in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. Alonso said it would be “strange” not to have Vettel on the grid next year, but thanked them for their battle over the years.
“Sometimes we fight for the championship, sometimes we fight for seventh place in Japan[this year]but we always enjoy every fight and respect each other as much as possible,” said Fernando. Alonso said.
“I think my career is tied in a way with Sebastian because I fought a lot in probably the best season of my life.”
“The result was on his side, but I always think it’s very relevant.”
Sebastian Vettel named Fernando Alonso as one of his most formidable rivals on Formula 1’s Beyond the Grid podcast earlier this week.
“Especially in both 2010 and 2012 there were very close battles at the end of the championship,” said Sebastian Vettel.
“The build-up that morning, the build-up that morning, the build-up, the tension going into the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, is probably still one of my favorite moments in my memory, at least for me. The people there were probably more relaxed. Maybe he was, but we were both very nervous.”
