Fernando Alonso “Suzuka’s high-speed corners and banks have a special feeling” / F1 Japan GP[F1-Gate.com]

Fernando Alonso (Alpine F1 Team) attended the 2022 F1 Japan GP press conference and talked about the Suzuka Circuit, Japanese fans, and the fight with McLaren.

Asked by a reporter if he won twice at Suzuka, Fernando Alonso said, “I won once! In 2006…just once. But I also won at Fuji.”

“I think everyone loves Suzuka. The mix of high-speed corners and the slight banking of the corners creates a really special feeling. The fans here are very passionate. So the whole weekend is great, especially with this year’s car. I’m looking forward to doing some fast corners.”

“I’ve been asked this question before, but now I just don’t remember how to find it,” said Fernando Alonso when asked about the craziest gift he received from a fan at Suzuka.

“But I’m pretty sure it’s going to be huge at some point this weekend and it’s going to fill up a garage like this, so stay tuned.”

Fernando Alonso has endured tough races, including retirements at Monza and Singapore.

When asked if those retirements were the same issue, Fernando Alonso replied: “No, it’s a different issue.”

“We’ve taken quite a hit on reliability this year. We lost a lot of points and unfortunately we are now in this battle with McLaren.”

“We are a few points behind and hopefully we can do the usual five races now and finish in the front. But yeah, that was our biggest weakness this year.”

“I think so,” said Fernando Alonso when asked if he thought the fight with McLaren would continue until the final race.

“I think there are some weekends where we can score a few more points than them. Others we may score less. Singapore stand out because they lost a lot of points. But Abu Dhabi. I think it will be very tight until

“It may not be completely safe until the end of the season,” said Fernando Alonso about the possibility of getting an engine penalty in the future.

“Maybe we need to bring in the power unit, but I don’t think it’s this weekend…but soon.”
