(Archyde.com) — Charles Leclerc overcame a late throttle scare on Sunday to win the Austrian Grand Prix for Ferrari and become the closest challenger to Formula One championship leader Max Verstappen.
Red Bull’s Verstappen finished second and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes completed the podium.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz retired due to engine failure. His car stopped and flames came out of the rear with 14 laps to go, while he was tailing Verstappen and looking for a one-two for Ferrari.
Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez, who had been second overall, also retired with the car damaged after a first-lap collision with Mercedes’ George Russell.
