Ferrari F1 appoints Robert Schwartzman as rookie FP1[F1-Gate.com]

Scuderia Ferrari race director Laurent Mekies said last year’s FIA-F2 runner-up Robert Schwartzman drove the Ferrari F1-75 in both of the team’s two rookie FP1 sessions. Decided to drive.

Robert Schwartzman, 22, has been a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2017 and left FIA-F2, which finished second in the championship behind Oscar Piastri at the end of the 2021 season, to join the Scuderia for the 2022 season.・I work as a test driver for Ferrari.

The new F1 regulations for 2022 require F1 teams to offer young drivers a minimum of two FP1 sessions throughout the season.

Robert Schwartzman has already driven an F1 car, taking part in the Scuderia Ferrari and Haas F1 team’s 2021 post-season Young Drivers Test, and has two of the remaining nine races of the season for Scuderia Ferrari. We will have two FP1 sessions allotted to us.

Asked about Ferrari’s plans for the post-summer FP1 sessions over the weekend of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Mekies said: “As for us, it’s Robert Schwartzman who will be responsible for the two FP1s. No,” commented.
“I wouldn’t pick a race like Singapore or a race where the race drivers need to do more. I don’t see any problem doing that on a weekend with Pirelli’s testing.”

Scuderia AlphaTauri’s F1 team principal Franz Tost has revealed that reserve driver and Red Bull junior Liam Lawson will run in FP1 of the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix. However, it has not confirmed which of the current race drivers will not participate in the session.
