Ferry services in the Qiongzhou Strait and three-port operations in Haikou, capital of southern China’s Hainan Province, will be suspended from 8 p.m. Wednesday as Typhoon Ma-on is expected to make landfall. Thursday.

The typhoon is expected to move at a speed of about 30 km/h, with winds peaking at 108 km/h, approaching the southwestern coast of Guangdong Province.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the coastal areas of Guangdong and Hainan will experience strong winds. Southwest Guangdong and northeast Hainan will be swept by rainstorms, according to meteorological departments.

Hainan has launched a level IV emergency response for the typhoon.
