Festive day, Sundays at the Château de Mauvezin

the essential
The castle of Gaston Fébus de Mauvezin is ready with many activities to receive, instruct or entertain the public during this summer season.

Organized by the Escolà Gaston Fébus association, the festivities will be in full swing every Sunday and public holidays, at no extra cost, like every summer, at the Château de Mauvezin. Inside, outside and around, the castle of Gaston Fébus impresses with its majesty. It represents a true cosmogony of the late Middle Ages. A journey that begins in the vast inner courtyard where a multitude of authentically reconstructed attack or defense weapons are exhibited: trebuchet, ballista, catapult, cannons… and also lifting tools like “the goat”. Dominated by a walkway which offers a 360% view of the Pyrenees chain, the foothills and the distant plains on the horizon and which gives access to the majestic 46 m keep. The latter houses, in a completely renovated room, an exhibition of archaeological remains from local excavations. Above, we discover the residence of the lord and his lady. Above, another room exhibits a fine collection of weapons: swords, rapiers, halberds. And finally, at the very top, under the marquee, a series of didactic panels retraces the history of the castle and of the man who was its lord: Gaston III dit Fébus. In addition, since this year a series of panels inspired by the Elucidari which traces the sky and the stars seen at various times from the Middle Ages until today. Show questions the organizers have planned: Demonstrations of archery, juggling, fire-breathing… with El Dragon. From the historico-comic staging by Tapaillo le fou du roy. Animation of a medieval camp with various workshops, fights orchestrated by Les ribauds de Pacoy. La Chope de Kevin le druide will be your expert in demonstrations and sales of medicinal plants. Finally, medieval music with Turba musica will brighten up the atmosphere.

A bit of modernism nevertheless to complete the visit with this remarkably busy store to keep a beautiful memory of this passage through the Middle Ages as well as a large video room, a beautiful Occitan library and a showcase of rare musical instruments: lute, viol , rebec, maurach.

Around, everything is organized to welcome visitors: free car parks and a lawn laid out for rest and picnics inside the vegetated moats and reconstructed guard towers.
