At the weekend, numerous field and field fires challenged the fire brigades in Upper Austria.
In Katsdorf (Perg district) and in Pregarten (Freistadt district), extensive surface and forest fires were just prevented during large-scale operations.
Wood stack caused large-scale deployment of the fire brigades in Katsdorf
14 fire brigades were on duty in Katsdorf for several hours on Sunday evening after a pile of wood lying at the edge of a forest burst into flames for an unknown reason. Due to the drought, the fire was already spreading in a field when the fire brigade arrived. However, it was possible to prevent a larger conflagration. The pile was removed with a crane in order to be able to extinguish the embers. Since the water supply was difficult, farmers from the area helped out with liquid manure barrels, reported the fire brigades involved.
13 fire brigades prevented a forest fire in Pregarten
Shortly before, a square baler had caught fire in a field in Pregarten, and the flames had quickly spread across the dry, harvested field. 13 fire brigades from surrounding villages were deployed. They managed to prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby forest.
Farmland and field fires caused numerous fire brigade operations in Upper Austria
The fire brigades reported field and field fires from all over the state on Sunday. In Wolfern (Steyr district), for example, nine fire brigades were deployed after a straw baler caught fire, in Laakirchen (Gmunden district) a voltage flashover on a power line set a field on fire.
