The results of the Grand Prix finals for men
The men’s denouement did not disappoint: great performances with ultra-difficult content and just one fall. Ilya Malinin reminded why he is called the “god of quads” and skated flawlessly a five-quad with a quadruple axel. But his rivals from Japan were also strong and decently outperformed after a short one. Sota Yamamoto had an exceptional skate without a single mistake and took silver, while Shoma Uno landed all of his five quads and confidently kept the lead.
Shoma Uno won the Grand Prix Final
After the free program, Syoma lay a little on the ice to relieve stress and relax. But he did not have to be nervous in the kick: it was clear that he was the first. He scored 204.47 points for the free program. Total: 304.46 points! Is this gold!
Shoma Uno Rushing to the gold of the Grand Prix finals! Breaks very confidently: quad loop, quad salchow, quad flip, triple axel with a long cat exit. In the end, however, he ran out of steam a little: the quad toe loop jumped in the cascade only with a double toe loop instead of a triple one, and on the solo quad toe loop he made a blot on the road. But, honestly, it didn’t spoil the impression of his performance. Soft smooth glide and great presentation – it was incredibly good!
Yamamoto received 179.49 points for the free skate. Total: 274.35 points. He bypasses Malinin by three points. That’s why you need to skate both programs cleanly.
Sota Yamamoto landed all planned quads without errors: quad salchow, quad toe loop – triple toe loop, quad toe loop. After a successful solo triple Axel, he could not restrain his joy: he clenched his fist and shook it. He realized that fortune was on his side. It seems that there are only three quads in the content, but he makes them so easy and expressive that it takes your breath away. And what a gorgeous magic boat he showed at the end of the program!
The judges gave 158.67 points for the free program Miura. Total: 245.74 points. Ilya Malinin will definitely take away a medal from the Grand Prix final.
Like Miura deftly and smartly screwed into every jump, but something is wrong with him today. Instead of a quadruple loop, he made only a triple, with a cascade a quadruple toe loop – the triple toe loop managed, but ruined the exit on the quadruple salchow. I wanted to make a quadruple sheepskin coat, but it turned out to be a “butterfly” – only two turns instead of four. At the end of the program, he again tried to perform a quadruple sheepskin coat, which was supposed to go in a cascade, and, unfortunately, fell. This is the first fall today for the guys. But the fall is not as bad as the loss of a cascade. Take off a lot of points.
Daniel Grassl successfully landed a quad lutz at the beginning of the program, abandoning a planned cascade with him. The jump took a lot of strength from him, so on the quadruple flip he touched the ice with his hand. But he coped with the quadruple loop and other elements. The audience in Turin, of course, very much supported their fellow countryman.
The judges rated the free Grassle at 164.57 points. Total: 244.97 points. The arbitrators gave marks to the skater for a long time and, it seems, found something to lower for.
I desperately ask you to give this jumping genius the Grand Prix Final gold! That’s all. If not for the short program, he would definitely have won today.
In the meantime, Ilya is gaining 191.84 points in the free program and 271.94 points in total. I want to believe that this is enough for at least a medal.
Well, quadgad, why couldn’t you make a short speech yesterday? Quad flip, quadruple sheepskin coat, quadruple salchow, quadruple sheepskin coat – oiler – triple salchow in the second half – all clear! Path to the fourth level! This is something unreal, a skater of the future, which cannot be compared with anyone else.
Malinin performed the quadruple axel cleanly
Yes! Ilya Malinin did it again: the coolest quadruple Axel is fantastic!
18 year old Japanese Shun Sato opened the men’s free program with a magnificent quadruple lutz. With a combination of a quadruple sheepskin coat – a triple sheepskin coat and a solo quadruple sheepskin coat, he also coped brilliantly. Yes, and with all the elements – did not leave the judges a chance to find fault with anything! Spanish music suited the skater perfectly and led his entire program only forward.
Free skate score: 173.54. Total amount: 250.16.
The first men’s warm-up has finally started! Soon we will see performances by Shun Sato, Ilya Malinin and Daniel Grassl.
The order of entering the ice for male single skaters
A few minutes remain before the start of the men’s competition! We go live at 15:30 Moscow time!
The skaters will take to the ice in the following order:
Shun Sato (Japan)
Ilya Malinin (USA)
Daniel Grassl (Italy)
Kao Miura (Japan)
Sota Yamamoto (Japan)
Shoma Uno (Japan)
Claimed singles content
15 year old American Isabeau Levito declared in an arbitrary cascade a triple lutz – a triple rittberger! Isabeau also plans to perform a triple lutz-oiler-triple salchow combo in the second half of the program. And she is also the only finalist who has two three-three combinations, the rest, including the leader after a short Kaori Sakamotoonly one at a time.
Only a Japanese woman is going to please fans with ultra-si elements Rinka Watanabe. As in the short program, she intends to land one solo triple Axel.
Scheduled male content
It is already known that men are planning to jump in a free program! Ilya Malinin did not change himself and again declared a quadruple axel. In addition to him, she intends to perform four more quads: a quadruple flip, a quadruple sheepskin coat, a quadruple salchow, a combination of a quadruple sheepskin coat – an oiler – a triple salchow.
A Japanese also plans to ride a five-quad Shoma Unoleading after the short program. In the content of the free program, he included a quadruple loop, a quadruple salchow, a quadruple flip, a combination of a quadruple toe loop – a triple toe loop and a quadruple toe loop.
Another Japanese Like Miura is preparing to perform four quads: a quadruple loop, a combination of a quadruple toe loop – a triple toe loop, a quadruple salchow and a quadruple toe loop.
The rest of the finalists will go to three quads in the free program. At the same time, the Italian Daniel Grassl announced the most expensive quads (with the exception of the Malina kvaksel, of course): a quad lutz combination – a triple sheepskin coat, a quad flip and a quad rittberger.
A Japanese is also going to impress with a quadruple lutz Shun Satowhich, in addition to him, declared a cascade of a quadruple sheepskin coat – a triple sheepskin coat and a quadruple sheepskin coat.
And the current second-placed Japanese Sota Yamamoto risks the least of the finalists. In his application, there is only a quadruple salchow, a combination of a quadruple toe loop – a triple toe loop and a quadruple toe loop. Perhaps he plans to take the purity of skating, and not the complexity of the content.
Hello! The battle for the medals kicks off at 3:30 pm BST with an epic showdown between men armed with multiple quads. Fans are certainly looking forward to another quadruple axel Ilya Malinin and keep their fists so that he succeeds today in a free program.
The competition will end with an equally interesting battle of women. The first three go with a minimum gap from each other, and the 15-year-old American Isabeau Levito it may well prevent someone from climbing onto the pedestal. A Japanese Rinka Watanabe will make his way to the podium with another triple axel.
