(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Kyung-yun = Figure skating male single expectant Si-hyeong Lee (Korea University) had a disappointing result due to repeated jump landing problems at the World Championships.

Sihyung Lee scored 65.91 points in technique (TES) and 74.80 points in art (PCS) in the men’s single free skating at the 2022 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating World Championships held at the Sude de France Arena in Montpellier, France on the 26th (Korean time). Two points were deducted, and a total of 138.71 points was recorded.

He added 85.34 points in the short program and finished 18th with a final total of 225.06 points.

Cha Jun-hwan (Korea University), a male singles sign who participated with him, finished the competition in 24th place as he gave up free skating due to a boot problem.

As the combined number of the two athletes exceeded 28, the number of men’s singles qualifications for next year’s World Championships in Korea was reduced to one.

According to the ISU rules, if the combined ranking of the two athletes participating is 13 or less, 3 tickets will be awarded, if the number is between 14 and 28, 2 will be awarded, and if it exceeds 28, 1 will be awarded.

Si-hyeong Lee fell down in the first jump task, quadruple salcho, in the second jump task, triple axel, and in the third task, triple lutz-triple toe loop combination jump.

The performance score (GOE) was reduced by more than 10 points in only three jumping elements.

After that, the jump task was postponed without major mistakes, but it was difficult to recover the score due to frequent mistakes in the beginning.

Si-hyeong Lee drew attention by wearing a patch of the Ukrainian flag, which had been invaded by Russia, on his clothes at the Kiss and Cry zone to check the score.

The championship was won by Shoma Uno of Japan with a score of 312.48. The silver medal went to Kagiyama Yuma of Japan and the bronze medal went to Vincent Zhou of the USA.

Japan achieved the best results by winning the men’s single title following the women’s single (Kaori Sakamoto).

Meanwhile, Nathan Chen of the United States, gold medalist at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan, who won the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 and Pyeongchang in 2018, were unable to participate due to injuries.

Russian players were also not allowed to play due to sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine.
