Final DX4000CL Headphones: Open Sound in a Closed-Back Design

by

Final Audio has announced the release of the DX4000CL closed-back headphones, slated for availability on February 26, 2026, priced at $999. The new model aims to bridge the gap between the company’s flagship DX6000CL and the DX3000CL, offering a sound profile that mimics the spaciousness typically associated with open-back designs.

The DX series, launched by Final Audio, represents a departure from conventional closed-back headphone design. Traditionally, closed-back headphones prioritize sound isolation and often emphasize lower frequencies, sometimes resulting in a constricted soundstage. Final Audio has instead focused on achieving a balanced and natural sound reproduction within a closed-back configuration.

According to Final Audio, the DX4000CL specifically addresses the common issue of low-frequency resonance in closed-back headphones. The company claims this results in a cleaner, more controlled sound across all frequencies, with bass reproduction described as “articulate and disciplined” rather than overpowering. This approach is intended to deliver a more detailed and nuanced listening experience.

The headphones are supplied with a 2-meter silver-coated cable, designed to improve signal transmission and enhance the clarity of fine details. Final Audio asserts that this cable contributes to the perception of a wider soundstage and increased transparency.

Final Audio emphasizes the neutral and refined balance of the DX4000CL, allowing recordings to present themselves naturally. The company states vocals are rendered with realistic presence, instruments possess convincing texture, and subtle nuances are clearly reproduced. The design prioritizes the reproduction of micro-details and dynamic expression while maintaining musical coherence.

At the core of the DX4000CL is a newly developed 40mm dynamic driver featuring a paper-carbon composite diaphragm. This driver is engineered for precise diaphragm movement and optimized airflow control within the earcups, contributing to accurate low-frequency reproduction and high-frequency resolution. The internal acoustic structure is tuned to minimize unwanted resonances, preserving clarity and ensuring separation of complex musical passages.

The DX4000CL features a 4.4mm balanced connector, and includes a 4.4mm to 6.35mm adapter for compatibility with a wider range of audio equipment. The headphones weigh 375 grams, excluding the cable, and utilize synthetic leather and memory foam earpads, which are replaceable. Sensitivity is rated at 96dB/mW with an impedance of 37Ω at 1kHz.

The DX4000CL builds upon the foundations laid by the DX6000CL and DX3000CL, offering a carefully balanced alternative that prioritizes openness, precision, and refinement within Final Audio’s closed-back headphone philosophy.
