Finder: How to Show/Hide File Extension on Mac

As we have shown here in MacMagazineo Finder lets you manage the files stored on your Mac. We’ve also given you several tips for this app — how to restart it and even convert a photo directly there, for example.

Because, in this article, we’ll show you how you can activate an option to make the file name extensions stored there (like .png e .jpg).

See how to do it below!

Open Finder and from the menu bar go to Finder » Settings… (or directly use the shortcut ⌘ command ,). Then click on the “Advanced” tab and enable “Show extensions for all files”.

This will show the extension on all files stored in the Finder.

Bonus: How to show extension only on individual files

If you don’t want file extensions to be shown throughout the Finder, you can do this individually.

To do so, right-click on the file and go to “Get Information”. Optionally, you can also do this using the shortcut I or going to Archive » Get Information.

Then click on the arrow next to “Name and Extension” to expand it and check/uncheck “Hide extension”.

Very cool, isn’t it?! ????‍????
