Under European sanctions, Finland will ban vehicles registered in Russia from entering its territory from midnight. Only those belonging to European citizens permanently residing in Russia will escape this rule, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said on Friday.
The Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) had already made a similar decision before. Permanent entry of cars with Russian license plates was already prohibited in Finland. Now the ban is also extended to vehicles crossing the border for a limited period. Russian cars already in Finland will have to leave the country before March 16, 2024. Finland will not seize vehicles at the border, Minister Valtonen emphasized.
