The system put in place by the firefighters this Wednesday morning is impressive. The fire destroyed much of the roof, as well as the second floor of the building. “No one was injured or intoxicated,” wishes to reassure the president of the CPAS, Christiant Vandeputte. However, the home had to be evacuated and its 53 current residents were taken care of in the Stambruges gymnasium. It is not known when they will be able to return to the building.
Given the configuration of the premises and the fragility of the people housed in this home (these are elderly people), the disaster plan was immediately triggered.
The home is currently undergoing major work, including upgrading and extension. However, the old wing, affected by the fire on Wednesday, was not currently affected by the site. The cause of this fire is currently unknown. The emergency services had to stay on site for a large part of the day.
