Nice success for the team “The breathtaking Pinzgauer” from the middle school in Uttendorf: The group won the Red Cross national competition in first aid.

Young first-aid experts from schools all over Austria competed against each other in staged emergency situations and showed once again that first aid is child’s play. The 22nd national competition took place on June 6th and 7th at Lake Maltschach in Carinthia. A total of 150 young people between the ages of 11 and 19 took part. They had already impressed in district and state competitions and thus qualified for the national competition. They competed against each other in teams of five.

accidents and defibrillator

The school teams of five people each completed five practical and five theory stations during the competition under the supervision of an accompanying teacher. Under time pressure, the topics included the treatment of heavily bleeding wounds, the correct behavior in mountain bike accidents, resuscitation with and without a defibrillator and the playful querying of theoretical knowledge. The young people were evaluated by a large national team of first aid lecturers from the Austrian Red Cross and the Red Cross Youth.

1st place for “Breathtaking Pinzgauer”

“The Breathtaking Pinzgauer” from the MS Uttendorf in Salzburg won in the silver category (8-hour first-aid course, up to the 9th grade). Second place went to BG/BRG Gleisdorf in Styria and third place to PTS Matrei iO in Tyrol.

“Professional first aid teams at the start.”

Peter Kaiser, Deputy Red Cross General Secretary, was there to cheer on the students: “It’s nice to see the joy with which all the students take part in the competition. The teams are well attuned to each other and show what they can do professionally learned everything in the first aid courses. Fair play and team spirit are the top priorities.”

First aid saves lives and is very easy

In order to teach children and young people how to act correctly in emergency situations early on and in a playful way, the Austrian Youth Red Cross enables schoolchildren to take first-aid courses during their school days. Over 100,000 students become new first aiders every year. The children and young people from all over Austria can then demonstrate what they have learned in first-aid competitions at district and state level, and the state winners take part in the national first-aid competition. The federal competition is supported by Lidl Austria.
