While the Paris town hall has announced the closure of the Bercy bus station following the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the bus operator wants its future station to remain within Paris intramural or to be located at the level of ‘a gate to the capital.

Flixbus will probably not move to Marne-la-Vallée. For several months, the bus operator has been in negotiations with Paris town hall and all stakeholders to determine the location that will replace the Paris-Bercy bus station, which must close following the Olympic Games. and Paralympics. “It has to be connected by a metro, we need a door,” insisted Flixbus spokesperson Charles Billiard on the set of Good Morning Business Tuesday morning.

An average price of 18 euros for domestic journeys

The German company is still attracting French travelers a year following the strike in the railway sector which led to a massive shift to its coaches during the end-of-year holidays. “We did not benefit from the same circumstances as last year but we continue to see this enthusiasm among the French for the bus and long-distance coach travel, observes Charles Billiard. We are even better than last year on these vacation even without a strike.” Although the peak of the Christmas holidays passed during the final weekend, the spokesperson expects a “very busy” period until returns in early January.

“We see that people sometimes consider us to be a fairly reliable solution. When there is a suspicion of a strike like with Getlink, they rush to our website.”

It must be said that Flixbus continues to expand its range of destinations, particularly internationally, while the average journey of Flixbus travelers is around 500 kilometers. “The French specificity is still Paris but we see that the big cities are starting to open up to buses and serve a lot of international destinations: Lyon to Italy, Toulouse and Bordeaux to Spain, Paris and Lille to the Benelux and the United Kingdom, indicates Charles Billiard. We have several large hubs in France which work very well.”

Above all, the company benefits from attractive price competitiveness in an inflationary context. “The SNCF announces an average of 45 euros over the year and we are more around 18 euros on our domestic journeys,” underlines the Flixbus spokesperson who estimates that the prices offered by Flixbus for the day of December 23 cost around two times cheaper.
