Thailand has recorded at least 123,081 cases of dengue fever which killed 139 people in the last eleven months of 2023.

Between January 1 and November 1, at least 123,081 people contracted dengue, a figure more than three times higher than the corresponding period last year. Tragically, 139 people have lost their lives to the disease, with the majority of deaths occurring among people aged 25 to 34.

Dengue is a disease endemic in tropical areas, caused by four strains of Dengue virus. The virus is transmitted during the bite of a mosquito of the Aedes genus, well acclimatized in urban areas and which occurs during the day and at nightfall. These insects proliferate in large numbers during the rainy season, causing epidemic outbreaks which affect, in half of the cases, children under 15 years old.
