01:05 a.m.: The BR24live on the flood situation in Bavaria
In the south-east of Bavaria, heavy rains have caused the levels of the rivers to rise sharply. Particularly affected by floods: the Berchtesgadener Land. The district declared the disaster. At least one person died from the floods.
12:50 a.m.: Slight all-clear for the Berchtesgadener Land
The flooding of the Berchtesgadener Ache will in all probability continue to decline in the coming hours, the worst is apparently over for the residents and the auxiliary staff. At around 8 p.m. the Ache reached a water level of 3.81 m, higher than ever. During the last major flood in 2013, the highest level was 70 centimeters below (3.12m). Within a short time, 120 liters of water pelted every square meter from the sky. In Marktschellenberg the water in the town center was centimeters high. The flood is an event that only occurs every 50 to 100 years, said Alfred Mayer from the Traunstein Water Management Authority to the BR. The intensity with which it rained there within six hours is extraordinary, said Mayer. The expert from the Water Management Office does not expect the Traun and Tiroler Ache levels to exceed reporting level 3. There will also not be massive spills where the floods could endanger people and houses. However, concerns are the Saalach in the Unterjettenberg area and then the Salzach near Laufen and Burghausen.
12:45 a.m.: The water of the Kotbach is falling
12:25 a.m.: Two dead in the flood area in Upper Bavaria
Two people died in the flood area in Upper Bavaria. But it is still unclear whether their death is related to the flood, said the spokeswoman for the Berchtesgadener Land district office, Alexandra Rothenbuchner. The district had declared a disaster on Saturday evening. After heavy rains, the river Ache overflowed its banks and flooded roads. Slopes slipped, cellars were full of water. Individual houses therefore had to be cleared, said Rothenbuchner. But currently nobody is locked in his house.
11 p.m.: Appeal to the population: leave the basement and avoid streets
In Berchtesgaden and Bischofswiesen the water shoots out of the mountains, at the same time the water levels of the river Ache rose. Individual houses have already been cleared due to slipping slopes. The population is called to leave basements and avoid the streets, as a lot of water gushes over them. The district is coordinating the operation with immediate effect. “There are always emergency calls coming in,” said a police spokesman in Rosenheim.
