Pregnant in prison, she wants to be released because her fetus is innocent

A woman accused of shooting dead a mother of three has filed a petition to be freed as her unborn baby suffers from the prison environment.

Natalia Harrel shot a friend in an Uber at a party in Miami.

Miami Dade Jail

In July 2022, a group is partying in Miami. At one point, the six people take an Uber to continue the festivities downtown. But two women start arguing inside the car. One of them, Gladys Borcela, 28, comes to blows with her pregnant friend, Natalia Harrell, 24. The latter then pulls out a gun from her purse and shoots the other. Everyone rushes out of the Uber except for the victim, who dies from his injury.

Natalia Harrel, who said she fired the gun because she was afraid for her baby, has been jailed for the murder of the mother-of-three. But last week, her lawyer filed an urgent request that she be freed pending trial, says NBC. The reason? The fetus is innocent. The unborn baby has indeed not been charged with a crime, so the attorney believes his due process rights are being violated. He therefore calls for the immediate release of the baby. And therefore, of course, of the mother.

The request also insists on the fact that the fetus did not receive adequate care in prison and that it is not a favorable environment for its development.
