According to the Bulletin on the supply of agricultural products and food security of the Agricultural Rural Planning Unit (UPRA), in the last month there was a slowdown in the prices of rice and eggs, as well as a drop in the prices of some varieties of potato, tomato and sedge onion.

PAPA

One of the ones that stands out the most is the black potato, since the offer improved and the sign in its trend changed, “in March it presented an increase of 9.5%, and for April there was a reduction of 6.2%” , affirmed Felipe Fonseca, director of Upra.

(The ten products that rose the most in the first four months of 2022).

FRUITS

Among the fruits, whose prices recovered the most from the increase, are: passion fruit, mango, pineapple, passion fruit and tangerines. Lemons went from an increase of 41% in March, to a variation of 6.6% in April.

In the case of defaults, there has been a reduction in its price from mid-March to date, particularly the fall that occurred in the markets of Bogotá (12%), and Bucaramanga (23%).

VEGETABLES

“As for vegetables, during April there was an increase in the prices of onions, peas, green beans, corn on the cob, beets and carrots, however, it is expected that, as they are transitory and short-cycle crops, , its offer reacts quickly to the market situation and the current situation is reversed,” added Fonseca.

On the contrary, cabbages, beans, cucumbers, zucchini and spinach had falls in their prices.

(The effect of inflation on prices of ‘corrientazo’ and empanadas).

RICE AND PANELA

The so-called premium rice presented a 9% increase in its prices in March and for April it fell 7.5%; The same trend was registered for second-class rice, from 8.8% in March to 5.1%. These signs may indicate that supply is beginning to recover and with this, prices are expected to drop, according to Upra. In contrast, the prices of both square and round panela fell.

CARNES

In meats, there were falls in the prices of pork and increases in beef and chicken. Although the drop in pork meat is not very high, it is remarkable, because it occurs for the second consecutive month; For example, pork ribs fell 1.6% in March and 0.7% in April.

In relation to fresh whole chicken without viscera, prices increased 3.9% in March and 2.3% in April; likewise, the prices of other presentations such as breast and wings increased.

The prices of the different types of eggs continued with an upward trend and this behavior continued for the second consecutive month
