Ex-Tottenham talent Anton Walkes dies in a horrific boat crash off the Florida coast aged just 25. The American media reported unanimously.
Accordingly, Walkes, who last played for Charlotte FC in the American MLS, is said to have crashed into a second boat with his speedboat off Florida’s coastal metropolis.
The English defender was injured so badly that the Miami Fire Rescue, which rushed to the crashed boats immediately after the horror crash, was unable to save Walke’s life, despite attempts at resuscitation.
Still at sea, only the death of the ex-Tottenham talent could be ascertained. This was also confirmed by Walke’s last club, Charlotte FC.
Charlotte Sport Director Zoran Krneta in a statement: “We are heartbroken at the loss of Anton Walkes, a truly incredible father, loving and outstanding person.”
He continued, “Anton embodied what it means to be a part of Charlotte Football Club and our entire community mourns this tragedy.”
The American league MLS also mourns him. She writes on social media of a “tragic death” of a “talented and dedicated player who was loved by his teammates and fans.”
MLS: “There are no words to describe the sadness of everyone in Major League Soccer today after learning of the tragic death of Charlotte FC’s Anton Walkes.”
The London-born defender began his career in the Under-23s at Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, before making his first loan move to Atlanta in the States in 2017.

After another loan spell at traditional English club FC Portsmouth (3rd division), he then went permanently to the USA, where he joined Charlotte FC in 2021.
Spurs commemorate their ex-player in an emotional post, writing on social media: “We are deeply saddened by the death of our former player Anton Walkes.”
He continued: “As a mark of respect, our first team will wear black armbands for today’s Premier League game against Manchester City and all of our academy teams will wear black armbands this weekend.”
The English Premier League also announced a minute’s silence for all weekend games.
